Howl-lo, dear nature lovers. 🐺🌼
May the wild surprise your heart with a tenderness few get to witness.
Three Little Bundles of Mischief
I could hardly believe my eyes when I first saw them. Three beautiful white wolf pups, tumbling over one another in a little grassy clearing, while their mother lay resting nearby. One was particularly mischievous, forever pouncing on its siblings, while another seemed determined to climb over its mother's back.
I couldn't help smiling at their antics. Their fluffy white coats, oversized paws and playful little movements were absolutely delightful. I had always admired wolves for their beauty and strength, but watching these youngsters enjoying themselves so freely gave me an entirely different reason to adore them.
Beneath Her Watchful Eyes
What captivated me most, though, was their mother. She rested comfortably, her beautiful white fur spread across the grass, occasionally lifting her head to watch her energetic little family. When one pup pressed its nose against her muzzle, she responded with the gentlest touch. Another received a little grooming before bounding away to rejoin the games.
I found myself watching her more closely than the pups. Those powerful jaws, those alert eyes, that magnificent wild presence—and yet every movement towards her little ones seemed wonderfully tender. I was witnessing a side of wolves that I wish more people could see and appreciate.
A Tear I Hadn't Expected
I don't think I'll ever forget the moment one tired little pup curled against its mother's chest. She lowered her head towards it, and for a few precious seconds, the lively clearing seemed almost peaceful. The other two were still playing, of course, completely unaware of how deeply their little family was touching my heart.
I felt a tear of joy slip down my cheek, and I smiled at myself for becoming so emotional. But I couldn't help it. Watching such a beautiful wild creature care for her young filled me with a warmth I hadn't expected. I wanted to hold that moment in my memory for as long as I could.
A Gentleness All Her Own
That afternoon inspired this lyrical poem, A Gentleness All Her Own. I wanted to celebrate the mother's quiet affection, the wonderful innocence of her three pups, and the happiness I felt simply being able to observe them. Wolves are extraordinary animals, capable of great strength, endurance and fierce protection. But their gentleness deserves our admiration too.
I didn't need to approach them or become part of their world. Watching respectfully from a distance was more than enough. I left with an even greater appreciation for these magnificent creatures, and a little reminder that some of nature's most beautiful moments are also its most ordinary.
A Gentleness All Her Own
A Lyrical Poem by Khalia Wildawn
Three little wolves in coats of white,
Tumbled together in afternoon light.
One chased a tail, one leapt too high,
One rolled on its back with paws to the sky.
Their mother lay where the grasses grew,
Her silver-white fur touched with dew.
She watched their games with patient eyes,
While tiny paws sent grass seeds flying high.
One little rascal climbed over her side,
Then slipped down the fur where its siblings could hide.
She turned her head and gave it a nudge,
A gentle reminder without any grudge.
I smiled at the mischief unfolding before me,
At three little lives so happy and free.
Yet more than their games, it was her I adored,
For the tenderness every small gesture restored.
One pup grew weary and settled down near,
Its nose tucked beneath her soft, snowy ear.
She lowered her muzzle and groomed its small face,
Then let it curl close in that sheltered place.
And oh, how my heart felt wonderfully full,
Watching such love in a creature so beautiful.
A tear touched my cheek, though my smile remained,
For joy had arrived where no sorrow had lain.
Those teeth could defend, those strong legs could run,
Yet softly she rested beneath the warm sun.
No less a wolf for the kindness she showed,
No less wild for the love that she owed.
I watched from afar as her little ones played,
And treasured the memory their tenderness made.
For strength has its beauty, but that afternoon shone
With a mother's wild gentleness, entirely her own.
What Those White Wolves Gave Me
I think I'll always smile when I remember those three mischievous little pups and their beautiful mother. They gave me a glimpse of family life in the wild that was playful, affectionate and deeply moving.
And perhaps that little tear of joy was my heart's way of thanking them.
I hope their story brings a little warmth to your heart, too. 🌼
There's more I’d love to share with you.
Those beautiful white wolves left me with such warmth in my heart, but not every creature I've encountered has inspired quite the same feelings. My Golden Orb Spider experience brought curiosity, fascination and a little caution, which I explored in my poem, Beauty Was Never Its Purpose.
I'd love to share that experience with you, along with more of my Creature Features and Lyrical Poetry. Every creature has its own story, and every poem holds a little piece of what nature has made me feel. Perhaps you'll discover something that touches your heart, too. 🌼
