A lovely day to you.
Come with me through the meadow where the wildflowers bloom.
Of all the places I love in nature, meadows may be my favourite. There’s something about stepping into an open field filled with wildflowers that makes me feel lighter. I love the endless sky, the colours scattered through the grass, and having no path telling me where I should wander.
I love the little sensations most—the brush of flowers against my legs, a warm breeze catching my hair, or a cool one touching sun-warmed skin. I’ll trail my fingers through clover, sit with my feet in a little stream, and watch butterflies, rabbits and bees quietly going about their lives. Somehow, those simple moments make me ridiculously happy.
But meadows give me something deeper too. Sometimes I carry worries and feelings I don’t know how to put into words. Out there, I don’t have to explain them. The flowers don’t ask questions, the stream doesn’t tell me to cheer up, and the sky never expects me to be strong. Nature simply lets me be exactly as I am.
Maybe that’s why meadows feel so much like home. They remind me that softness isn’t weakness and that I’m allowed to feel deeply. Whatever I carry into the meadow may still be there when I leave, but beneath that enormous sky, surrounded by wildflowers and moving grass, my heart somehow feels lighter.
Where the Wildflowers Hold Me
Of all the wild places that whisper my name,
The meadow is where I can soften again.
I step through the flowers with nothing to prove,
And feel something guarded inside of me move.
For sometimes I carry much more than I show,
Small worries I bury where nobody knows.
I smile at the world while they hide underneath,
Like stones I have carried too long in my grief.
But here, when the grasses brush over my skin,
I somehow feel safe enough just to give in.
The breeze lifts my hair and runs over my face,
And asks for no answers, just gives me some space.
I lie on my back where the wildflowers grow,
And whisper the things I need no one to know.
The sky never judges the tears in my eyes,
It simply stays open and endlessly wide.
I trail my bare fingers through clover and bloom,
And something inside me begins making room.
A stream takes the thoughts I am ready to free,
And carries them somewhere much farther from me.
A butterfly rests for a breath near my hand,
A rabbit sits quietly watching the land.
Such delicate creatures, unguarded and small,
Remind me that softness is not weak at all.
I love mighty mountains, deep forests and sea,
But none seem to know quite this secret in me:
That sometimes I’m tired of trying to be strong,
And here in the meadow, that feeling belongs.
So when I need somewhere my whole heart can show,
I go where the grasses and wildflowers grow.
