I Tried to Choose One Leaf

Khalia Wildawn smiles playfully among vibrant red, orange and golden autumn leaves, holding a colourful maple leaf beside her face.
I thought I'd found my favourite autumn leaf, until another caught my eye! How could I possibly choose just one when every leaf has its own beautiful colours?

Hello, lovely readers. 🍂

Have you ever held an autumn leaf and wondered how nature made such beautiful colours?
I hope you'll join me and marvel at the leaves of gold, amber and crimson.

🍂 A Thousand Shades to Love

Autumn has a wonderful way of capturing my attention, especially when the trees begin changing colour. I adore seeing their leaves turn every imaginable shade of yellow, orange, red and brown, sometimes with a little green still clinging to the edges. And the colours aren't always quite what I expect.

I've found leaves that look almost pink, others with deep purple markings, and some that seem to have several seasons painted across them. I could spend an entire afternoon admiring them and still discover something new.

🍁 Every Leaf Has Its Own Beauty

One of my favourite things to do in autumn is walk beneath the trees when their leaves have begun gathering on the ground. I love the gentle crunch beneath my shoes, the coolness in the air and the way sunlight catches the branches, making their colours look even richer.

I'm forever stopping to pick up a leaf that catches my eye. Sometimes it's a brilliant red one, sometimes a golden leaf with tiny brown freckles, and occasionally one so beautifully patterned that I have to turn it over several times to admire both sides.

I once tried choosing just one favourite to take home. I had barely made my decision when I spotted another, then another! I ended up laughing at myself because I couldn't bear to leave any of them behind.

And I'm always curious about how it happens. Why does one leaf become bright yellow while its neighbour turns such a beautiful red? I know nature has its reasons, but understanding them doesn't make the colours any less astonishing to me.

🌼 Colours I Couldn't Keep to Myself

I wanted to write a lyrical poem about this little autumn obsession of mine. I could almost hear a cheerful rhythm in the leaves rustling above me and the crisp ones tumbling around my feet. It seemed only right to give my words a little rhyme of their own.

This poem is about my curiosity, my affection for autumn's smallest details, and the rather impossible task of choosing just one leaf when nature has made so many worth loving.

🍁 I Tried to Choose One Leaf

Lyrical Poem by Khalia Wildawn

I went to find my favourite leaf,
just one to take back home,
but autumn had a thousand colours
and wouldn't leave me alone.

A scarlet one caught my attention,
so bright I stopped to stare.
But then I spotted one of gold
and hurried over there.

I found another, orange and pink,
with freckles along its face.
How could a single little leaf
hold so much colour in one place?

I turned it over, held it high,
and watched the sunlight shine.
Was this the prettiest leaf I'd found?
Could I finally call it mine?

Then something yellow brushed my nose!
A leaf came floating through the blue.
I laughed and caught it in my hands.
Now what was I to do?

I asked the trees who chose their colours,
why some turned red, some gold.
They answered with a shower of leaves,
more lovely than I could hold.

My pockets filled with autumn treasures,
my hands could carry no more.
Yet every step revealed a beauty
I'd somehow missed before.

I never chose my favourite leaf.
I couldn't, though I tried.
I brought a little autumn home,
with its colours tucked inside.
