Where Turquoise Whispers

Khalia Wildawn kneels peacefully in crystal-clear turquoise shallows, gently running her fingers through the sparkling water of a secluded tropical cove.
I kneel where the sea meets the shore and trail my fingers through the turquoise water. For a little while, I ask nothing of the world. I simply listen to the ripples, feel the sunlight on my skin, and let the ocean whisper whatever it comes to tell me.

Hello. Do you love the ocean too?

I cherish the sense of calm it gives me.

There is something about shallow ocean water that always makes me want to stop and look. When the sea is calm and the sunlight reaches through it, the water becomes the most beautiful turquoise, so clear that I can see the sand and dancing light beneath the surface.

I love kneeling at the shore and trailing my fingers through it, feeling the cool water move gently around my hand. In those moments, the ocean doesn’t feel enormous or wild. It feels quiet, peaceful and somehow close to me.

This poem came from wondering how a colour could make me feel so calm. Sometimes nature doesn’t need to say very much at all. Sometimes it simply gives us a beautiful place to be still for a while.

Where Turquoise Whispers

I kneel where sea and sunlight meet,
Where turquoise gathers at my hand,
So clear I see the rippled light
Go dancing softly on the sand.

I trail my fingers through the blue,
And feel it slip between them slow,
As if the sea has come to tell
A quiet thing I ought to know.

No restless waves come rushing here,
No roaring water calls my name,
Just little folds of shining sea
That reach the shore and leave the same.

I watch the colour deepen where
The sandy shallows fall away,
From almost glass to turquoise bright,
Then blue beyond the curve of bay.

How can a colour feel like peace?
I wonder as I touch the sea.
Perhaps some things are beautiful
Because they ask us just to be.

So for a while I leave my words
And let the water hold my hand,
While turquoise whispers with the sun,
And peace comes quietly to land.
